What model of car? The 2.3 temp gauge does normally sit in the middle, and when the engine gets hot it can go above middle. Both fans should cut-in when the car gets hot, and one fan should be going when the AC is on. On the 2.3. At the front of the inlet manifold, there are two plastic plugs connected to temperature switches that send the message to fans and gauge. I can't remember which one does which, but the one that sends the message to the cooling fans 'defaults' to them being 'full-power-on' when the plastic plug is pulled off the switch. (I have an inline switch fitted to one of the wires so that I can control the fans manually if I want, this was very handy when I drove the car to Malta) So, you should be able to pull those plastic plugs off the senders, and one of them should activate the both fans onto full power. It doesn't happen instantly, takes about 4 or 5 seconds for the fans to react. Hth Peter

The two pugs have different connectors. The one to the gauge is a single wire with a round connector and the one to the CCM has a two wire plug with the usual click fastening.

Underneath the smaller rubber pipe to the thermostat, there are two senders, with plastic plugs for the wires. It's the furthest from the front of the car, just put a good bit of pressure to the 'clip-bit' on the top of the plastic bit, (obviously putting the same pressure below) and pull, it'll come away, and about five seconds or a bit more later, the fans should come on full-power. This is for the 2.3.
