Bernard. Just one thing to check. The washer pump is a push fit into the washer bottle and sits in a rubber cup which is a filter. This can get covered in slime and thus stop water getting to the pump. It is likely to happen if things like washing up liquid have been added to the washer bottle at any time as they react with screen fluid. Worth a check but beware of getting wet when you ease the pump out!

yes and i know i have a full washer bottle but i am not optimistic its a blockage because in the past i found electric washer pumps buzz even if starved of water so it seems to be electrical as mine remains silent--what is worse today driving to a hospital appointment a few spots of rain came on the windscreen and magically the wipers did 3 wipes then although the screen wasnt even wet it repeated 3 wipes about half a mile later --the wiper switch was off --now i know the scorp was never fitted wirh hygroscopic wipers so the gremlin has returned and there wasnt enough raindrops to reach the fuseboxes and we have had at least a week of dry weather---i could probably get the washers back by refitting the old wiper stalk and putting up with no intermittent wipe and no self parkor i can try to work out what multiplug blades do what -the old haynes manuals often showed component terminal identification but ford wiring loom diagrams only give any detail on major looms ---i figure if i can identify the earth in the multiplug it should be possible to work out whether the switch is passing current in each position using a multimeter on continuity check mode or i may give up and let my local garage sort it out as i am not really able to do much crawling about under the car any more and they do have diagnostic equipment and the know how

today i gave in and took the car to dmvs motors and their diagnosis showed i had voltage at the pump for the rear wiper but nothing at the front confirming that my recently replaced wiper switch is faulty-- with no replacement switch to hand they came up with an ingenius idea that was to swap the washer outlet pipes over so that pressing rear screenwash washes the front screen --not only can i now see where i am going but it will also pass an MOT when the time comes---well worth the £48 bill i thought also a tip well worth passing on --i doubt i would have thought of it---now the less urgen search for yet another switch starts --i havent found a way of testing continuity of circuit in the washer switcheven partially dismantleing the old one didnt show which wires went to each terminal -all showing connectivity or not remaining the same whether the wash button was depressed or not and the identification numbers cast into the plastic multiplug bore no relation to any numbers shown on the wiring diagrams so you dont know if a switch works before it is installed
