Boot say's open..I say not

Hi all

I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this .. i have a 2.0 16v ultima and the dash shows a picture of the car and shows if doors or boot are open. Mine has been great for last 2 years but the boot sign is now saying the boot is open even though it is definitly not.

Does anyone know if there is a sensor? i have stripped down as far as the lock mechanism and do not see anything that resembles a sensor (i have remot boot open/lock)

Also at the same time the drivers side reversing light has stopped working, i have changed bulb and holder but no joy. Is there a fuse for this light?

I have spent some time on the sight but have not had any luck on either of these problems.

Any help much appreciated

Hi mate. it sounds to me very much like i problem i had. The scorpio saloon models suffer with cabling problems on the boot lid hinges.

what i suggest you do it carefully examine the cables at the ends of the hinges at either side, at the ends where the cables drape across to either inner wing. These wires are prone to snapping inside the insulation because of the upward and downward motion on the boot lid.

i'd start here mate. even if the cables look ok, the wires may be snapped inside.

they also suffer from being stuck fast on the rubbers although the lock has opened ..and do show the light when that happens ..sounds daft but I would check that first if you had no probs before .. < presumably you have opened and closed again to check the light so I guess you would have noticed ..but ya never know !! >   regards ..STN

My sister-in-laws boot has become very difficult for her to open - sounds like it's sticking - as it unlatches OK but then she can't pull the lid up. Eventually it springs open by itself (usually at the worst possible time) and then it operates OK until she leaves it shut for a few days and then it sticks again. Is there an easy fix for this (ie silcon spray etc) and how would I go about doing it for her (if you know what I mean).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

cbkz,

beside cabling there is another possible source for your problem. There is a switch in the boot lid, which tells the central locking controller that it is locked. In my case two of the three contacts in this switch were totally corroded. I had to replace it.
