Title: Sunroof Seal Post by Pam and John on Aug 18th, 2005, 8:28pm Have tried searching, but can't find anything. Has any one replaced there sunroof seal? I think they are available from Ford (they were about 6 months ago), as I'm getting GBH of the ear drum from er indoors in view of recent weather and not being able to use it - where the ends join it has started to split. Looking for how to do the job/is it possible, any help/advice gratefully received. Me I just use the A/C - it's her petrol ::) ;) John |

Title: Re: Sunroof Seal Post by Paul B on Aug 18th, 2005, 8:53pm And air-con is the best option anyway. Don't know why they ever put a sunroof on the Scorpio at all. Anyway, I hate to say it, but the dodgy seal could just be the tip of the iceberg. The problem is that the metal frame underneath tends to corrode, and thats what makes the seal bubble up in the first place. Having said that, you might just be lucky. And if its only rusted a small amount, it'll be best to catch it now. If you can just get the seal from Ford (I didn't think you could any more) then its not too hard a job really. Its just a pull-off / push-on job... just like doing a door seal. |

Title: Re: Sunroof Seal Post by Dave on Aug 19th, 2005, 9:34am John, had this a few months ago. I actually pulled the seal up as it had already risen to the point where the roof wouldn't work anyway. Cleaned up the area underneath then glued the seal back in place with some strong glue. Been fine ever since! Be sure to oil everything carefully, including the cables, when you are done :) Cheers |

Title: Re: Sunroof Seal Post by Partsman on Aug 19th, 2005, 2:56pm The seals are still avaliable from Fords but at £65 you might be better off re-using the old one if its not to battered. My frame is starting to go rusty and I hardley ever use the roof anyway. Thats what the a/c is for !! |

Think this is the way I've got to go, sunroof panel is OK (I think) - seal is actually ripped in the area where the two ends meet on the back of the panel - cant understand why they put this at the front !!!! |

Title: Re: Sunroof Seal Post by Baz on Aug 19th, 2005, 10:53pm The seals from the sunroof of the MKIII Granadas are the same and tend to be a lot less prone to rusting. I replaced one on my other red scorpio last year with a granada one. Cost a fiver!! Another sunroof tip....... the little metal bars that push up the wind deflector when the roof is fully open was made of a lot better steel on the granadas than the later scorpios. I got two yesterday to replace mine on my S reg which were rusty and rotten. A quick rub with wire wool and a spary with barbecue paint for the new ones sorted thejob. Baz |
