Title: Re: getting clock out Post by wickedteen on Sep 5th, 2006, 7:36pm now you see i think that is rediculous, who ever designed this dash its just stupid, there could have been an easier way dont you think |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Mummra on Sep 5th, 2006, 8:09pm A word of warning when doing the clock bulb, make sure the clock is unplugged before fitting the bulb as they immediately blow. Cost me 3 bulbs to discover this. |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 5th, 2006, 8:21pm Yep. You gotta take the whole fascia off! Think about it like this. If you try and get to the clock any other way, you are almost certainly going to crack, split, and break that lovely walnut surround!! Imagine how you'd feel then? You'd be gutted! Yes, it's a bad design, but you'll get to know a bit more about your car by doing it. I have got to do mine soon, and I'm sure it won't be too bad in the great scheme of things. You could always ignore it, and just look at your watch of course. That's what I've done for the past 6 months, but as the nights get darker, I would like to get it working. THANKS MUMMRA for that advice. Now that would be a real bummer to get it all together again, and find that the bulb had blown. Obviously test the bulb before replacing fascia seems to be the sensible thing to do!! Have fun. :D |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by hellblue on Sep 5th, 2006, 9:14pm Whilst you have the facia off its only 4 more screws & 3 connectors & you have the dash panel in your hands so now would be a good time to replace all those bulbs too as you can bet in two weeks time you have one of them blow too |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by nuttyscorp on Sep 5th, 2006, 9:15pm the fascia is "fairly flexable, and if your hands are small enough, and fingers long enough, although tricky, it can be done without actually removing the entire facsia, although you will have to remove most screws anyway, before you can pop it out. Title: Re: getting clock out Post by cossie_al on Sep 5th, 2006, 9:18pm Is it not worth replacing the bulb with an led? as I have done various bits on my car I have replaced bulbs with leds whenever I've had chance. Leds are much more long lived than bulbs and you can choose a colour if you so desire. |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by hellblue on Sep 5th, 2006, 9:33pm Yes i to have mostly leds in switches, but the led light is to directional to back light display panels |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 6th, 2006, 7:17am If you go back about 25 posts in this section, you'll find a post I started about removing the clock bulb. There's a picture of the bulb there. |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 6th, 2006, 9:10am Several people have suggested that you can access the clock bulb by simply removing the C/C panel. I don't see how you can do this. I can't get anything between the panel and the fascia, it's an extremely close fit. Have even tried .007 size feeler gauges, but nothing will go into the gap. Don't want to risk screwdrivers, as there's no way I want to damage the fascia. I've tried the areas above the A/C button and the int/ext button as suggested. Zilch. Maybe there's a knack to doing it? ??? |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Kjetil S on Sep 6th, 2006, 11:30am You can either take the entire dashboard an cig tray out, or you can fiddle for an hour or three underneath the tray ;D |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 6th, 2006, 1:18pm Just done mine too. Had to actually remove the clock (three screws), because my fingers would not get anywhere near the bulb/ holder which is in a very small recess, and impossible to get a grip on. It occurred to me whilst replacing it. Why in God's name didn't the person who designed this clock simply put the three screws through from the front, rather than from the back, and this would make the clock SO simple to remove. Three small black screws would not detract from the look of the dash at all. and if my bulb goes again, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Just seems so stupid to have to spend an hour doing something that should only take about 5 minutes. |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by mr._floppy on Sep 6th, 2006, 2:43pm While agreeing the clock bulb is a real pain to replace, this is not some Japanese , French, Korean £10 000 plasticky cheapo car you're dealing with. Ford thought that these cars will be bought for the European Company Car Market by the truckload, so they're not designed with the DIY driver in mind. :'( |

Title: Re: getting clock out Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 6th, 2006, 4:06pm That's a fair comment. Just a pity that not many of US will want to pay a garage for an hours labour to do this job. Mine is going to get 'screwed' next time its out! |
