Title: Re: engine clean Post by TiberiuS on Sep 13th, 2006, 4:50pm DON'T jet wash/steam clean it, not unless you are looking for some gremlins to take residence in your engine bay ;). Did mine with Paraffin, you need to remove the underbody shields etc but it makes a really good job of it, gentle on the electrics too :). Just let it dry for a while before you start the engine, you get a nice smell for a while anyway :D. Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: engine clean Post by mr._floppy on Sep 13th, 2006, 5:20pm Seriously, I wouldn't bother. :( A bit of water in the wrong place can cause hair tearing out probs. The resilience of the wiring is not the Scorpio's strong point. |

Title: Re: engine clean Post by taliban on Sep 14th, 2006, 12:15pm im with floppy on this, a coating of oil n grease helps stop corrosion etc however, if you're determined to give yourself an electrical nightmare you could try gunk, in liquid form you brush it on then rinse off, or they do it in a spray, vile stuff but works..... |

Title: Re: engine clean Post by Spannerdemon on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:08am 100% with Highlander. Paraffin and a brush work best. Cheap and very effective. Jetwash it at your peril. You might as well get Steven Spielberg AND Steven King round for the horrors that will follow!!! Don't go anywhere near the alternator, or any connectors etc. Cover electrical bits with plastic bags etc whilst you are doiing it. Look forward to seeing you on here next week in the "Duff Electrics Section" ;D ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: engine clean Post by scorpio_man on Sep 15th, 2006, 10:07am hi there i've lost count of how many times i've power washed my engine. you just need to be carefull about what you hit with that pressure. yes, if you blast you alternator with lots of water, your asking for trouble, but for normal cleaning it's fine, imo. |
