Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by harry.m1byt on Oct 17th, 2006, 8:36pm If you don't mind damaging the tank, you could always drill a hole in the bottom - having a course threaded pan head self taper with a soft washer ready to plug the hole. !!! DON'T USE an electric/battery drill, use a hand cranked one carefully or a sharped nail with a wooden mallet to punch a hole through. |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by twinturbo on Oct 17th, 2006, 8:52pm :o :o :o :o :o :o :o Don't even contemplate bashing a nail through!!! On spark and your spending the next year in hospital ( if ya lucky... ) A screwdriver will pop open the trapdoor. You could always run two wire to the pump feed, then run the pump continuously and pump the fule via the fule line in the engine bay. TT |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by TiberiuS on Oct 18th, 2006, 12:02pm You could always pick up a cheap hand barrel oil pump, pumped out some of the 10 year old 4 star in the Capri that way (anyone want to buy a litre of genuine 10 year vintage Texaco 4 star? :D), some of 'em work on a syphon. Other than that you could use the old hosepipe and suck method, just don't swallow any ;) Bruce. |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by wickedteen on Oct 19th, 2006, 9:29am YOU CANNOT SYPHON FROM THE SCORPIO AS THE PIPE WONT GO INTO THE TANK, THIS STOPS PEOPLE PINCHING YOUR PETROL |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by Highlander on Oct 19th, 2006, 11:01am If your scrapping the car take the tank off, theres only two straps hold it on underneath, and the filler cap needs unscrewing then it falls off :) |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by Highlander on Oct 19th, 2006, 3:52pm The bolts holding the straps are usually too corroded to remove though, you might need to cut the strap itself |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by a900one on Oct 19th, 2006, 8:59pm If the engine will run you could put a hose on the return line to the tank and get it out that way. I did that when I sold a car and it had a lot of gas in the tank. ; ;D |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by wickedteen on Oct 20th, 2006, 8:11am any one know were the return pipe is, i didnt think they had one |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by Snoopy on Oct 20th, 2006, 8:47am This Data sheet refers to the return pipe... Fuel System (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/fuel/general/FuelTank.pdf) If you get under the car you will be able to trace the TWO fuel pipes along the undeside of the car but the return I think comes off the FPR ..... |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by jonnycab on Oct 20th, 2006, 10:16am Not sure where return pipe is in the cossie, but it should be the red one coming from the FPR |

Title: Re: emptying petrol tank Post by howiedintheplace on Oct 20th, 2006, 11:05am I always remove the tank as I want the fuel pump from inside too. But another way is to wire up your fuel pump & use that to empty it. |
