Title: Alarming Question?
Post by Paul B on Nov 13th, 2006, 7:23am
I don't have too much experience with alarms and, having recently had a break in, I'm left pondering this question...

At what stage of the break-in process does the alarm sound?

Given that I don't have the movement sensors fitted (as I'm sure many of us don't) smashing the window won't set it off.
And if its double locked the doors can't be opened from inside.

So when should it operate?   :-/

as you don t have the sensors paul,i would guess at when it senses a voltage drop IE. door opening, interior light coming on,bonnet opening

OK. Thanks Craig. That's kind of as I suspected.
So the scumbags still have time to get in and cause damage first.
Wish I had the sensors.

cant they be "retro fitted"   :-/

failing that mate, could always add a second alarm system that does have the sensors, pick them up for about £60.00,then you have the added advantage of 2 alarms working in tandem with each other....
ultimately though,at the end of the day,if they seriously want it,they will get in,b****rds.... >:(

paul..
again just guessing here as mine had the interior sensors, but the ones without could also have a motion detector (basically a pendulum system, thatn if the car is moved/rocked,the pendulum moves thus triggering the alarm)....
again though,just a thought  :-/

I thought I had seen a circuit diagram for the Scorp which indicated break glass sensors?

The internal movement sensors are exactly the same as fitted to the Granada, therefore if the wiring is in place is just a plug in job. Anyone know for sure?

Window glass break sensors were only fitted to the load area windows on the estate as far as I'm aware.

As Craig says the alarm is linked to switches in the doors, bonnet and boot and will trigger if any switch opens while armed. I'd stay away from pendulum sensors, can be a pain in the behind in bad weather.

The alarm system in the Scorpio is good as in being an anti theft one, makes it very difficult to start the car or nick the radio, anti-vandalism is a whole different ball game.

Regards, Bruce.
