Title: Rattle from engine
Post by richa on Mar 20th, 2007, 5:30pm
Hi All, I have a rattle from the engine on my 2L 16v. Sounds like the timing chain and tensioner. Its worse when cold and revving the engine. This was changed about 50,000 miles ago so you would not think it needs changing again. Its had regular oil and filter changes. AA think its the chain and tensioner too. Anything else it could be and how difficult is the job to undertake.
Cheers Richa

be warned mate there is a hydrolic cam tensioner that has to be replaced 28 quid from ford it can only be used once if you get the timing wrong when you put it back together you have to replace it i know this coz it took me three attemps to get mine right coz i did not cheak this site out first and find out how to do it the right way

Thank you for the replies. I have been using fully synthetic 0-30 oil for about  4 years. Hopefully I did not contribute to the chains wear, I doubt it. I know the booklet says 5-30 semi synthetic. I have been quite good at regular oil changes. I think. I think I will take things apart first and check to make sure its the chain at fault and then take on this ambitious job.
Cheers Richa
