over the last 2 weeks the speedo has worked and not but now i have nothing any help would be graet

Possibly the vehicle speed sensor. Go to THIS page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccmonitor.htm) and scroll down to the relevant section. This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/intbasic/VSS.pdf) shows you where it is etc.

How are your gearchanges? (assuming its an auto).
If the VSS packs up, gearchanges will be dramatically effected, especially kick down.
