Post by dogma on May 2nd, 2007, 11:54pm
Hi all, can anyone tell me how many ignition coils there are on a 2.9 12 v on a P plate, i replaced the one that sits just below the air filter box but wondered if there was another one. car is popping on idle, ive changed the Ht leads, plugs, dizzy cap, the coil i mentioned and the plugs but getting worse, oh and a new rota arm

As you have a distributor, then there should only be one coil & the HT lead from the middle of the dizzy cap should go straight to it  :)

This is possibly an incredibly dumb question...... I'm not entirely sure of the distributor in the Scorp, but is it like the old ones, with contact breaker points....if so, then are they set to the right gap ?  :-/

Everyone can start laughing now if they want  :P

Hi matey, no problem lol, the car has a dizzy with the rota arm but strangely enough i had a bit of a problem with finding a dizzy as apparently most 2.9s never had them, but thanks for your info, i know its not the coil as its brand new, bloody cars lol
many thanks
jim

There IS only the one coil. There is no points 'gap' to set. It's all electronic igntion based.

Only thing that immediately springs to mind is if you have maybe moved the Distributor body itself, (loose clamp bolt even),  and knocked the ignition timing out.  ;)
