Hi guys.

Would it be possible to change my cd player and still use the steering wheel control?

If so, is there another piece of kit that i need and would it be specific to the cd player that i buy.

Any recommendations of cd player or help would be great.

Depends what model Ford radio you currently have fitted and what model CD player you want to replace it with.

FWIW, I bought a Sony CD player a few weeks ago - I had to buy a discontinued 'clearance' model (GT300 I believe) because I'm told manufacturers have stopped putting the remote control facility on all but their high-end systems - certainly current Sonys don't have this facility unless you spend >£300.

Beyond a stereo that can accept a wired remote, you will also need an interface so that the Scorpio's steering column remote will talk to the new radio. Halfords do an adaptor for most makes of radio, but this only seems to work on later Scorpios with the double-DIN sized Ford radio. Mine is an early model with the Ford 2006 radio and the interfaces that can be used on the later Scorpios don't work with this (I tried).

I am currently trying to source a 2006 compatible remote interface to go with my new Sony; I'll post my results in a few weeks. Prices for interfaces (which also includes the loom adaptor to convert Ford radio wiring into ISO standard) cost around £30 from Halfords, though you may need to buy a 'patch' lead to suit your make of CD player - these cost around a fiver. Also, if you have the double-DIN Ford radio then you'll need a fascia adaptor for the new radio to mount to.
