Title: Tyre sizes Post by kittman on Feb 19th, 2008, 10:16pm Can I put 205/50/16 tyres on cossie alloys which have got 225/50/16 tyres on at the moment |

Title: Re: Tyre sizes Post by Scorpio_Mike on Feb 19th, 2008, 10:32pm Tyres will probably fit BUT rolling radius will be smaller ( 3.17% less ) so fuel consumption will increase slightly & speedo will read incorrectly ( Slightly low - 70mph indicated / 67.78mph actual ). Also check manufacturers original spec for insurance / modification reasons. Check this website for all you ever wanted to know about tyres ( and some things you didn't ) : http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html Tyre size comparison calculator is on page 2. |

Title: Re: Tyre sizes Post by Matt on Feb 19th, 2008, 10:33pm you can yes but i would advise against it, for one the cossie needs a good amount of traction, it may start to drift about on round abouts and fast corners. also the alloy wheels were designed to take the larger tyre, so you would be stretching the smaller tyres to fit on the rim |

Title: Re: Tyre sizes Post by Matt on Feb 19th, 2008, 10:37pm the rolling radius will be the same as the tyre wall height hasnt changed, only the width of the tread |

[] I'm with Matt on this. Cossie needs that extra grip - 225's on there for a reason. |

Sorry, rolling radius will be less as the sidewall height is a percentage ( 50% ) of the tread width. |

Title: Re: Tyre sizes Post by Matt on Feb 23rd, 2008, 2:09pm i based my comment on what cossie guy told me when i picked the car up, he said the 225's rubbed the front arches when on full lock. the 18's you have on your scorpio would fit as the scorpio has bigger arches so the diffrence in offset wouldnt be a problem the scorpio has a diffrent off set to the mondeo hense the 16" 12 spokes on the scorpio are diffrent to the ones fitted to the mondeo |

Title: Re: Tyre sizes Post by v4-max aka Cheekyboy1 on Feb 23rd, 2008, 8:44pm i was there when he took them off of his n plate mk 2 2.5ghia x mondano, that he was breaking (blown engine) the scorpio and the mondano are both listed as a 35-42 offset. i guess the only way kitt will find out is if he tries them, having read the thread again i see kits tyres are 225/50/16 where as mine are 225/40/18. so i really cant see a problem. |
