Title: CD changer mountings ? Post by Scorpio_Mike on Mar 4th, 2008, 6:07pm Seem to remember reading somewhere that there was an improved mounting kit made by Ford for the CD changer mounting in the boot of estates to stop the CD from jumping / skipping - can anyone confirm this ? If the kit does exist does anyone have the part number ? |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by Robiko on Mar 5th, 2008, 3:10pm Does the TSB only cover estates? I have a saloon and the CD has a habit of skipping when driving over a rough road, I had thought it was in need of replacing but if it's only likely to be the mountings then maybe I'll start there first... |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by mijfife on Mar 17th, 2008, 8:57pm The cd changer mounting bracket on my '96 Td estate is held in place with two bolts in the middle just above the boot floor. The one on the '97 estate spares car is fixed near to the wheel arch and seems to use lumps of foam underneath it and at the tail light end. Can I ask which of these two is the improved version? Cheers Jim |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by Octavian_P on Mar 18th, 2008, 1:11pm The one with the foam is the improved one, as is stated in the TSB |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by TiberiuS on Mar 18th, 2008, 11:48pm It's probably as much that the laser pickup is dirty and needs a clean, the same with a worn stylus on a turntable will skip, skip, skip... |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by davem on Mar 28th, 2008, 6:29pm Yes...my turntable often skips when I put it in the Scorp ;) The lasers inside CD players do have a shelf life. The more you play it, the less efficient the laser becomes. Over the years the laser will deminish in performace, until a point that minor vibrations will cause "skipping" and eventually no disk will be read at all. It's a fact of life and cleaning may (but often not) improve performance. |

Title: Re: CD changer mountings ? Post by TiberiuS on Mar 28th, 2008, 7:00pm Yes, but normally it's dirt. Most of them don't get played enough for the lasers to go bad. Mine skipped like mad at first, didn't have any more problems after taking it apart for a good clean..cheaper than another changer, worth trying first.. Now the ones which normally do have bad laser pickups are the old Pioneer reference CD players you get on eBay. Picked one up for £90 a while back, new pickup assy from Pioneer was £120. Bingo, £500 CD player for £200 ;). But these things tend to get played a LOT. Regards, Bruce. |
