Title: front speakers
Post by big_timer on Aug 17th, 2008, 12:25am
can anyone recommend a good upgrade for front speakers.all the sound seems to come from the back.

and yes the balance/fade is set right.

its the standard ultima system.any advice would be great ;D

The sound system in the ultima is a bit of an oddity in my experiences - normally the "premium" stuff fitted to fords is pretty good, but the scorp gear is, to be blunt, pretty d**n aweful !

Looking at the speakers too, they look like they cost about as much as they sound...

Usual upgrade route is probably best - start with some decent tri-axial speakers in the standard mounts up front (you can usually get 130mm ones to fit with a little thought) and look at making custom mounts to fit 6x9s in the rear ( i dont think they are a direct fit with the standards being some odd smaller size)

You could also consider using a custom mount with component speakers in the back too.

I've always found the stereo lacking bass response, so a discreet subwoofer arrangement wouldnt go amiss - this will require wiring an amp in with feeds taken from the rear speakers to hi-level inputs, or replacement of the head unit entirely to get line outs.

Its a long story but the previous owner made a hash of fitting the 6x9's in the rear, looked like he cut the holes with an axe >:(
So I spent ages with a file and tin snips trying to tidy it up.
As for the leather cover I made that myself, the original shelf cover can be a pain to get out but I removed it and used upholsterers adhesive to attach a layer of 10mm foam and then the same adhesive to attach the leather. fitted it all back together and the had the task of getting the screws into something solid, not an easy job as the rear window was very close to the speakers.
If my memory serves me well there was a fair bit of discussion about this early last year it may be worth going through some old posts.
If I can find them I will point you in the right direction.

best bet is to keep to standard sizes and get some nice components upfront to give you that little extra you culd also amp them if you feel the need

if you get stuck give me a shout i had 3000watts in my old car

please dont go for max output on speakers you want to know the rms because that what you will run at max output is before they go pop

hope this helps

I tried to have interior with no changes...unsuccessfull. Tweeters need their own holders. Midbass need(in my installation) pad because of their depth and then changes on door.
Base is good damping with closed buffle.

So, maybe small inspiration.
