Title: Traction Control? Wheelspinning Problem.
Post by smitheagle on Sep 8th, 2008, 11:46am
Driving the other day, in the wet/rain, i was going fine until i turned a corner, not going any faster than usual in the rain and the back skidded around slightly, brakes locked, but i still managed to get around ok without hitting a bollard!

Anyway, a few minutes later, i went to pull away from some lights and i wheelspinned, nothing wrong here, wet roads etc. so i stopped, tried again, wheelspin, stopped, very slowly tried to pull away, wheelspinned, took ages to grip whilst travelling at a couple of mph, everytime time i had to stop at lights, traffic etc, no matter how slowly i tried to pull away, it was wheelspinning, then up a gear, and a little wheespinning again (it seemed to be drivers side wheel, but cant be sure). The weird thing is, it only happened for about 5 minutes of the journey, it then started behaving 'properly' pulling away with no problems, i tried pulling away a bit sharper and it was fine. No change in weather, surface or anything, just 5 minutes of madness.

Any ideas?

Could it be a wheel speed sensor problem? Mine does that from time to time, but it seems to be accompanied by an ABS/TC warning light. Sometimes it rectifies itself the next time I stop and start, other times it persist for a few weeks, during which time neither ABS nor traction control works.

Could well have been a diesel spill, once its on your tyres it takes a while for it to wear off.

I echo what cossie-al says - esp as you first noticed it when going round a corener.  it's quite common for lorry to have poorly fitted fule tank caps and to spill a little on a bend.
