Was he from Alcoholics Anonymous?

Its VM diesel Vittori-manufactured (VM)

Its not just fitted to the Scorpio, its was fitted in many cars, Ford, Toyota, Alfa Romeo, Opel Chrysler and Rover.

In the UK it will be best known in the Range Rover, the Rover 825, Jeep Cherokee, Chrysler Voyager, Vauxhall (Opel) Frontera and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

If I were you I'd join the RAC!!

Well i never, one has to trust what the expert tells me, for an AA man i am surprised he had not seen it before, i find it hard to believe he hasn't  ::) perhaps he was from the other AA? any way i like it so who cares what it is but i do thank you for the information, i guess i can surmise that it is reliable then ? it runs like a dream, absolutely no problems at all, and all for £400 from Ebay :D ps that included the body as well  ;D

looks like you have the later more powerfull version,

the early ones the throttal cable was on an arm like many engines, the later vm's like that one has what i would see as a type of electronic throttal, as in you cant rev it from the engine bay as theres no throttal linkage!

Rather lost faith in AA, if you recall a while back my bonnet catch went on my 24V there is no way of getting it open other than dmaging the grill, you can not reeach the catch from underneath because of all the bit and bobs there.  Local garage showed me this when it was on the hoist and they tried for a day but no joy, (no charges as they did not finish job) anyway AA man tried for 5 minutes with a very small screwdriver then gave up, at the tiem I did not realise it can not been done that way, so he telling porkies.

I'm surprised  the AA man  identified  it  as an engine  as  their  experience of lifting  a  bonnet  is  as  meagre   as  an   X  Factor    winner's  singing ability   :'(

I'm sorry,   my opinion   of  the  boys in  yellow  has lessened  since  one technician  ( Hah ! )  refused  to   free  a   binding   brake shoe  in case his 'elf   and safety human  rights  were breached  by the  breathing  in  of  a  few  particles of  brake dust.

Get  a  job  you  like  you  big  useless  ( deleted  after taking   legal  advice ) :-*

having castigated them I suppose I should give an example of a good un!

had a Granada Scorpio and happpily motoring unilt I realised that loosing power pulled over before it was to late.  Had all the symptoms of dud battery BUT I knew it was a good one, so out comes the patrol spent a long time on it until he decided to have it recovered to a better location (mc donalds) so coffees in hand we go back to it.  Bypassing circuits and it fired up but leave as normal stops.  Eventually success after many calls and experiments it turns out to be the charging bulb had blown and with that gone it takes out the charging circuit.  New bulb and all was fixed, nothing but praise for that patrol.
