Title: Rear springs and shock replacement
Post by tricky_dicky on May 2nd, 2009, 1:59pm
I have just ordered some heavy duty rear springs and new rear shocks as the Scorp sits very low at the back and is getting a bit spongy.  Just wondered if there was anyone who has changed these before who could tell me of any pitfalls I should look out for and roughly how long it should take. Also are there any special tools needed other than a spring compressor?

I am sure the lads will be along with some advice shortly. In the meantime THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/suspensionman.htm) might help. ;)

tricky_thingyy.
No special tools, not even a spring compressor, disconnect anything that prevents the trailing arm from dropping to it,s lowest position, then just pull the spring out

I did the same a few weeks ago....HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1227134370) (page 2).

Tip  ;)....when you do the N/S, there is a brake pipe junction screwed to the underbody above the roll bar. Make sure you remove the screw to release it, otherwise you'll rip all the rear brake pipe unions out of it when you push the radius arm down  :)

Good luck  ;)

P.S....the new HD springs have settled now & only dropped by about 1/2", if that....& with the new Gabriel gas shocks that I fitted at the same time, the handling has definately improved around corners/bends & has improved the understeer that the car seemed to suffer from before  :)

My road spring need replacement at some point. How many workshop hours are expected for replacing the road springs?

Thanks for all the advice, I have just got to wait for the parts to arrive (d**n these bank holiday weekends!) and then I can get on with it. It's had the front wishbones done already so it should handle a lot better after the rear end gets sorted.
