Title: Door replacement (drivers)
Post by tlundkvi on Jul 22nd, 2009, 5:51pm
Hi all,

Does anyone have any ideas on how much time should be reserved to move all the old door mechanisms & components from the old to the new one? Is it an evening job or is it more like a whole day job? I need to have it locked and ready during the same day.

The worksteps seem pretty clear though.

hi..well you will need to allow yourself plenty of time...the door lock will take time due to the plate that protects the lock inside...plus the window etc..to remove the door is easy...undo the check strap....unscrew the electric plug, undo the grub screws on the hindges...lift off the door :)...i think i used  a 4mm socket on our daughters.. :).

If the new door has a lock on it. can your key be programmed to open it. Saving you time swapping the locks over. So all you need to do is change the door.........

It's a naked door with only some of the insulation, so nothing's in it.

Sounds more like a "start early"-job then :)

Just one practical point. To access one of the screws holding the 'door lock shield' you have to lever open a flap . Either break it off when you get the shield off OR make sure when you re-fit the shield that it is pushed back flush. IF it protrudes it will snag the window mechanism so check before you replace the door trim!!. Good luck. ;)

Thank you for this advice, will surely test everything works right before I close the trims!
