Title: Exhaust prices
Post by mindofitsown on Dec 17th, 2009, 4:29pm
Hi All,
Not been on here for while.
2.0l 16v. Anybody know which is the cheapest nationwide exhaust fitter? Got my MOT coming up and exhaust is blowing in mid section.
I had some advisories last year regarding fuel and brake lines and the front tyres need replacing soon, so that lot plus the exhaust may write off the car.
Regards

Try www.buypartsby.co.uk - prices are normally good.

Thanks Mike, Had a look and they are the cheapest (at £125 for centre section) but I don't fancy fitting it myself in this weather. Besides there exists another complexity......the current exhaust is original production fitment and is all in one from downpipe/CAT joint to tailpipe. I don't know if the relacement centre section will fit onto the existing rear section if it were cut. I found a local fitter that will do the centre section (fitted) at £179 incl vat who said they will look at it and see if rear section can be attached.

You can fit one to the other,a sleeve is available to join the cut ends,or if you happened to just need the rear section, which you don't,they are sold with an expanded end to slide over where the old one is cut off.

Have you looked into a stainless exhaust, from the cat back was about £240 on my granada scorpio 2.0.
Was a couple of years ago now but I dont think prices have gone up much, may be worth a look.

Stainless is where I'm going.   I've got mine up for MOT on Monday, and I'm hoping for a pass.   The Exhaust is now getting old and I can get a full stainless steel system taylor-made and fitted for £410.   The cheapest place for standard pattern parts is the 'net', but you need to fit yourself.   The favourite place for failure is the flexi-pipe.   However one can get 'taylor' flexi-pipes from factors for a good price and clamp them to the original pipes either side for little money.
