Title: To the left
Post by tonyboy on Aug 26th, 2010, 6:17pm
Hello, the symptons my cossie has, drifting to the left when driving, pulling to the left when braking, and a clunk on the left front when going over pot holes,  what could be the problem,
Thanks in advance
Tony

Sounds a possibility of bad left wishbone wear, either ball joint, rear bush or both.Have you grasped the wheel at the top while on the ground and rocked it fore and aft,if there is more than a little movement that is most probably where the problem is,the ball joint is best checked whilst jacked up,applying up and down pressure to it.If you change the wishbone, don't tighten the front and back nuts up until the car has assumed it's running position on the ground,or the bushes will be over stressed and torn.

Also the rear wheel bearing was on the advisory list. do you normally change just the bearings or the complete unit.
Cheers
Tony

rears bearings are fairly straightforward to swap

I wouldnt drive a Scorpio with a dodgy rear bearing, at the very least you will find yourself on three wheels with major hub damage and get NO warning whatsoever  ;)

change it ASAP

Would this be the right one, Here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-Scorpio-2-0-2-3-2-9-94-97-REAR-WHEEL-BEARING-/170383899515?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM)

Tony.
As far as that listing goes it is the correct one.If there is play in the bearings detectable to the MOT bloke,as Highlander says failure is imminent,it may have already ruined the hub,and in the worst case the carrier as well.If there are grooves in the hub, replace it because the repair may be short lived.
That bearing kit on ebay is very cheap ,the trade price from a factor is about £30.
