Title: Boot wont stay up
Post by reg_houlton on Oct 26th, 2010, 11:10am
Have an S Reg Granada Scorpio estate. For no apparent reason the estate lid now wont stay up! Have to hold it while the dog gets in or putting in shopping. Came out of the blue - any ideas why??

Many thanks ???

Hi Mrs Reg  ;). If you go to This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/body/closures/bonnet.pdf) and scroll down to section 7 it shows how to release the struts.( The details are for the bonnet as there is no diagram for the tailgate but the fitting is the same.) If you post on 'Parts Wanted' you may get lucky.  :)

Hi Folks.

I have the same problem with the boot on my saloon.  A sawn off brush shaft is not really in keeping with the Scorpio.  Is there a strut involved or is it down to the two terrifying springs getting weak?

Cheers. ???

Yes that's right, squeeze the springs with a suitable implement and keep em there with a couple of strong ratchet straps.

When Snoopy gets up  ;D he'll possibly find a picture which shows a similar remedy using strong cable ties.  :D

In case he's having a lay in This post (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1244645862;start=1#1) may help.  ;D

Sorry only just figured this out, lol ;D you mean put something on that makes the springs shorter?

Reminds me I've noticed a "choice of anchor holes" at the back ends (boot rear), has anybody tried moving the spring hooks to a different hole?

Appendix to the above ~ before I put the interior boot trim back on (as everybody before me couldn't figure out where it goes) the boot lid would open itself fully if I press the remote 'boot' button. Which I thought was really neat.

Now it needs a bit of "gentle persuasion" with a couple of fingers to get it started.

Or am I being hyper-fussy ;D

The link in Simmo's post refers to either way of adjusting the springs. ;)
