Title: parts descriptions Post by Wadman on Nov 7th, 2010, 9:22pm My 1998 Ultima has just had it's 40,000 service and was advised: - 1) Multi V belt in poor condition. 2) Wiring loom to coil packs in poor condition. I think #2 is called "Fuel Cut-off Loom" by Ford, but I have no idea what #1 refers to. Advice please. Wadman |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by Tompion on Nov 7th, 2010, 10:20pm It's the Auxiliary drive belt. The other is the Fuel Cut-off Loom & looks like this on the 2.0/2.3: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Scorpio-Fuel-Shut-Off-Loom-/360163205035?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53db665fab |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by Mike H on Nov 9th, 2010, 11:18am What's the white thing in that picture? 'Tis possible to repair by replacing the clapped out bits of wire, but that of course assumes you're used to soldering wires together |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by Wadman on Nov 15th, 2010, 10:41pm Guys, you will not believe this, the garage which informed me of "the wiring loom" problem now say they didn't mean the "fuel cut off loom" but, and I quote " the loom underneath the engine cover to the coil packs". Can anyone suggest a schematic I can view to identify this loom? |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by lleewar on Nov 16th, 2010, 7:40am The 'loom' underneath the engine cover is part of the fuel cut off loom. I can only think that they mean the coil pack leads themselves. |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by lleewar on Nov 16th, 2010, 7:52am Wadman, go to Fault Finder, scroll down to Idle Poor and click on 'engine loom'. It shows the wiring, part of the loom, to the coil packs and the coil pack leads themselves. Lee Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm) |

Title: Re: parts descriptions Post by Simmo on Nov 16th, 2010, 8:51am This is a common fault and IF it is just in this area it is not too bad to sort. Ideally save the connectors by soldering new wires in place as close as possible to the connectors. In the process it is best to sleeve the wires in a heatproof material. All joints should be soldered and covered with heatshrink material. :) If you click on the first photo, as with the others, it will enlarge. This first one shows exactly what it can look like. This firm (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.php) has all you will need and are very helpful. Just be warned that although a lot of the connectors LOOK the same they are not compatible. I actually sent some to them to check this out which is why I suggest re-using the old connectors. ;) |
