Hi Wumpster,

I had a solenoid changed on my box in September 04, don't think it's a DIY job, cost me £200 at a specialists. Although I was told by numerous 'Specialists' I needed a recon box, the solenoid has fixed my problem 100%.

hi there

i see you're having MAF problems as well. i would try one that is working 100% and see how that goes. is there anyone near you how could give you a shot of theirs? needs to be a 2.0/2.3 one, not the 24 vavle one as the fitting is different.

changed the maf today and there was a big differance in how  much smother it was could it be the code stored from the old one. also if i disconect the maf there is no change in how the gear box performs ??? (starting to think should of kept me merc)

Wumpster,
Changing the MAF will not do any harm because it can cause incorrect ratio errors (normally Solenoid C) and generally it can make the autobox thump.

However, you have other codes. P0007 doesn't exist, m8 - the second number must be between 1 and 8. P00EF looks suspect too - no wonder it's not defined.  Do you know if George has the correct Ford definitions loaded?

However, the last two or more helpful.  Both refer to Solenoid B or #2. P0732 means that the PCM has detected an incorrect gear ratio - OBD constantly checks the VSS signal with the TSS rate to ensure that the correct gear is engaged, and here it has found the revs out of preset limits.
P1756 shows that the same solenoid is not operating correctly. Look through http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccmonitor.htm for an explanation of the gearbox operation checks by the Comprehensive Component Monitor (CCM).

Your best move now would be to seek the advice of a good recon autobox specialist.  If the fluid is not burnt or too contaminated it may be okay just to change the solenoid - (£200-300) but if not a recon box will be needed (£600-800)

Good luck.

hi eric when i was having problems with the maf it was thumping into gear for a couple of days so it looks like this may have caused the gearbox problem as it changed fine before the maf problem(should have parked it up) the fluid looks a little brown and does not smell to good so i think it may be a replacment box :'( we changed the maf and there was  quite a differance in how well the car run but disconecting it the gear box fault is still there

Thanks
