Does any one know where I could buy a cable to converst a Gunsons 3 pin fault finder so I could attach to the 16 pin socket under the steering wheel, and if this is possible can I use this connection to see what faults have been recorded by the ECU.

If this does not work can any one reccomend someone in the North London area who could read the faults from a 2.9 12 valve Scorpio.

I just read the codes on a mates car, same model, using just a short length of wire and a multimeter. Following the diagram for making up a STAR code reader on www.fordscorpio.co.uk, connect the multimeter between the terminals where the LED is shown. Connect the piece of wire into one only of the two terminals where the switch is shown. To start the test plug the other end of the wire into the other switch terminal after switching on ignition or starting engine. If you can get the right 12V LED with a resistor built in, at a pinch, you could just plug the LED leads straight into the OBD connector if you don't have a multimeter. Need to put insulating sleeve on the wire and LED so you don't short anything. Remember the picture of the connector is reversed, ie viewed from the back, so the numbered connections are the opposite sides to those shown. The connections are actually numbered on the back if you slide the connector out of the panel.

Do you get the 2 or 3 digit codes on the 95- > 2.9 12V? My haynes book only describes scorpio up to 1994 having 2 digit codes and 'some Mondeo models' having 3 digit codes... :(

Why I ask is because my lockup sometimes fails to lock the auto gearbox and if its the 3 digit codes it should maybe give me more info and i can buy a startester...
