Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Baz on Oct 10th, 2004, 5:38pm I used to drive a 1968 Corsair 1700 V4 in Silver Fox metallic reg UOY 481F. It was my godfathers car from new, my dad had it for a bit and then I had it until it went to the big scrapyard in the sky. I have as well as the two scorps, a 1982 Cortina Crusader which is aslo about to go to the btreakers due to the metal termites which have eaten most of it away!! Good news is, my Red Scorpio has reached its selling reserve on Ebay. So if the guy is honourable enough, I will no longer be two scorps!! Baz |

Have a look if you like... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/PCBoulton/GTfront.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/PCBoulton/BucketSpade.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/PCBoulton/GT-BlackWhite.jpg Can't really say which makes me smile more - the Scorpio for smoothness and when I'm 'giving it some' or the Cortina for good old fashioned fun and the looks it receives. :) :) :) |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by JohnJ on Oct 10th, 2004, 9:16pm Yea I'll test drive too! ;D I had a Sierra 2.0 GTE twincam 8 Valve, that bit annoyed me, it should have been 16v, but it could go like hell. A Ford Mondeo 1.8 Ultima, a sporty version with standard recaro bucket seats, quite nippy too. And the beast well 2.9cossie would be nice but 2.3 will have to do. Love the car loads. I do like the New Mondeo Tdci ZetecS Beautiful car I think and I will have one before to long. and now the ST220 Diesel is out. :o220BHP out of a oil burner. the fastest Diesal car ever buit by ford...I want one for Christmas please! Back in 1977 I had a 1959 Austin Healey Sprite Mk2, 980cc but went like stink....several Minis ( the real ones) a Mk1 escort, a Mk2, a VX Cavalier 1600,(odd but it was loads of fun to chuck about) a VX490 (the General Lee.. :D) Then motorcycles.... a Fantic 50, a Suzuki 50, a FSIE, then a brand new 1980 Honda 250n Super Dream in silver (drool) and lastly Suzy GS1000e in Blue/white. Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by phuturephantasy on Oct 11th, 2004, 10:30pm Well i have only had my driving licence - for cars anyway for exactly 1 year now and in my first 12 months driving I have had - Fiat Punto 60S 1.2, Honda Prelude 2.2 Vtec, Mazda xedos 2.0 V6, Renault Laguna 1.8, Ford Scorpio 2.9i 24V Cosworth, I have owned the Scorp for longer than the rest of em all put together as I haven't yet found anything which is more relaxing and exciting to drive yet. I have clocked up over 22000 miles in my 6 months of ownership and despite her strange idling behaviour she has NEVER let me down. I had always been a biker before that and I still find it hard to believe that I now love my car as much as any bike I had, I used to have a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa which was good for 200mph but I still prefer my Scorp. |
||
|
Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by craig on Oct 12th, 2004, 6:49am hayabusa :'( :'( :'( :'( and that was going to be my next bike,however have managed to blag a ride as a pillion,and between you me and the gatepost even managed to take it out solo(shhhhhh ;D ;D)........ perhaps after getting off of it physically shaking,and thinking to myself,am i still here,perhaps it was wise to have been forced to give up bikes,but believe me,that was one mean bike ;) ;) ;) craig.. |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Paul B on Oct 12th, 2004, 6:53am How did you like the Xedos? I nearly had one of those... until I decided to stick with Ford. Kind of "Better the devil you know" as the outgoing car was the Mk3 Granny Scorp. Insurance on the Mazda was going to be almost as bad as the Cossie. Mind you, I was going to go for the 2.5SE version with all the leather and stuff ::) |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Badboytunes on Oct 12th, 2004, 9:07pm Ive had sum dodgy cars in my time. Fiat 128 ( which my dad bought for me) revved like hell tho. Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by TaperOne on Oct 15th, 2004, 3:55pm Nice to see that some members are Motorcyclists. I currently have a Yamaha 1000 Exup which I have now owned for 10 years. I keep thinking about replacing it and even tried the Busa, but as aforementioned, a bit too bulky and quick for me. I am now waiting for the KTM 990 Superduke to come out. Now that does look like a mutha of a bike with attitude (have you seen one yet, Craig?). As for cars I have owned, my favorite has to be Fords pre-runner to the Scorpio. The Mk3 Zephyr/Zodiac range. They really were a great car for its day. And if you managed to get hold of an Aquaplane manifold with triple SU's and a 6 branch exhaust, they went pretty well too. I eventualy owned 3 of these before I went into 60's Yanks, and still went back to one later on. Currently have XR3i cabriolet for the Missus as well as my 2.3 Facelift Scorpio estate and a bit of a rat KLR650 Supermotard stylie everyday bike. TaperOne |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by craig on Oct 15th, 2004, 4:39pm hi taperone yes i have seen the KTM,)well pictures)now that is a brand that has come along way in the past 10 years or so,and as for the superduke,if you some to a meeting,tow it on the back,that'll be nice ;) ;) ;),even though i cant ride anymore,i still keep a keen eye on motorcycles,and the choice at the moment is unbelieveable,could never really make up my mind between a good 4 stroke "green laner",or a full on spots/tourer,always wanted a gl 1500 goldwing,untill i tried one out once,great ride as long as you are on a roman road,they dont corner to well :( :(,but comfy,put the cruise on,turn the tunes on,and away you go....... oh well happy days ;) ;) ;) ;) craig.. |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by phuturephantasy on Oct 17th, 2004, 9:29pm I've just bought a Volvo 850 T5 estate - And I have to say it certainly puts a grin on my face, much faster then my 24v - I know as I chased it with my mate driving it and I was left for dead. Not as nice to drive though - feels somewhat crude in comparison. |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Ranjo on Oct 20th, 2004, 1:19pm Hi all my 1st car at athe age of 17 was a Nissan Bluebird 2.0 SGL it was top of the range and had loads of extras but it was my dads old Private hire vehicle so totaly broken. I then had a Nissan Sunny 1.2 ex driving school car from one of my uncles so again broken I then started work as a licensed black cab driver in Birmingham so had a Black cab old v reg so again broken. next i had a brand new g reg black cab which cost £22000! and was one of the worst vehicles i had driven by then. so as you can see i wasnt having much luck with vehicles, which for a guy that enjoys the simple pleasures in life such as driving was quite frustrating. i then went on to own 5 more cabs which were now getting somewhat better but still considering they cost around £30000 each they were pretty pathetic In 1996 i became a fully qualified driving instructor and brought a vauxhall corsa 1.2. great car but at the hands of learners soon died. in 1999 i forked out £10800 for a brand new fiesta 1.8 diesel LX which i still have. Although the car has been great will never make the mistake of buying a new car again because of the depreciation. i also at present have a TX1 taxi cab which is a lot better than the prvious taxis. And of course i also own my pride and joy my silver Ford Scorpio 2.3 ghia which just happens to be the very best vehicle that i have ever owned or even driven so at long last man and machine are in perfect harmony. |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Baz on Oct 20th, 2004, 5:34pm Good list Ranjo, but I just couldn't imagine paying nearly 11 grand for..............a Fiesta!! even if it is an oil burner, the amount of savings on fuel must have been battered by the depreciation. At one time, my fleet consisted of 2 x 407 estates (Y Regs) 2 x Rover 75 Conoisseur Diesels (W Regs) 2 x Peugeot 307 Diesels (51 plates) 5 x Mercedes Vito 108s (all Y regs) All on contract hire and now thankfully all mostly gone!! Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by Eddie on Oct 20th, 2004, 11:26pm Interesting reading about other cars and how peeps still prfer thier scorps. I had a sit in my old scorpio the other day (Idrive an omega now,2.5 manual,nice!) and I was amazed at the ..the...sensation, Its nice and low to the floor. The seats are so comy,like sitting in your favorite armcahair,with plenty of support under the legs. The controls are nice and direct,precise,no wasted movement. The doors shut without having to slam them,just a gentle tug. Visibility out the back windowis good. etc.etc.etc. Ho Hum! If only I didnt need my car for a private hire,I would have another scorpio----might even keep the one I got,just for fun. eddie |

Title: Re: Members other cars?? Post by nick on Oct 21st, 2004, 3:31am Well we have started someting now havent we. Passed my test in 1985 and my dad bought me a Mk4 cortina GL, smashed it up within 3 weeks. That was it i was on my own after that. Bought a 1966 cortina Gt , white and green, lotus wheel, lotus 7 manifolds, twin 48's oh and on a J plate, an import. Swapped it for my 1st true love, a 1976 Mk1 Granada Ghia, 3.0l auto, and kept it for 3 years. Bourht a 1979 2.8 Granada Ghia Sapphire, 1st car with leather. Had to go I lost my licence, so to keep stelthy I bought a Cavalier till i got my licence back. Back and legal, bought a Mk1 Grannie 3.1 Manual, oh and a 3.0 Coupe for sundays, which I converted to manual, remember simon. On the coupe i put a piper v63 cam, westlake heads of a TWR BTCC capri, 40dfi and tubular manifolds, oh the sideways action that car did, fantastic. Then another Mk2 a 2.3 LX and a 3.0 Ghia and another coupe. They all went so I got another 1985 Grannie Ghia x Executive, oh and a 1985 Mk2 2.8 Injection Sport Estate, quite rare, only 20 made. Then the company cars came, A Nissan Oh Deara, A Fiat Marea Weekender and a new Laguna, then i spent a fortune on a brand new Puma which lasted 3 years. Thank god I gave up the company cars and bought my 1st Scorpio, a 1995 Exec in 2000. Fitted leather and 16 spokes, then bought my estate, a 1998 facelift ultima, and another Mk2 a 2.8i Ghia x manual, so the exec went. Last Year I went away in the Mk2 and when I came back I had bought my white cossie, so goodbye to the Mk2. As you can see I have always been a ford man, big ford especially. What does the future hold, I dont know, I still really want a nice 1969 Opel Gt but daily car, its gonne be a mondeo when the scorpios go, I quite like the look of a TDCI Ghia X Estate, but we will see Nic |
