Title: Imperial / Metric
Post by Paul B on Feb 7th, 2006, 8:03pm
Not sure what I expect from this thread, but just thought I'd mention something...

Having done a bit of work on the car recently, I have been surpised to find quite a few nuts, bolts and stuff of Imperial sizes.

I would have expected this to be a totally metric motor, but no.

I wonder why  ???

The sump plug is 1/2" and not the 'nearly' 13mm

The exhaust to Cat fixings are something like 9/16" I think.

And to release the tension on the air-con belt required an imperial spanner rather than metric (can't remember the size now)

Silly little things. Quite odd  :-/

check your spanners, sump lug should be 13mm, most nuts on exhaust 15mm, baring rusting away, & I thing 15mm on the belt tens.

Well I'm starting to think that these things can vary.

Linking back to this... Sump Nuts Thread (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1139513085) ... these new bolts are both different sizes.
The black one (old type) is 1/2". Yes, 13mm fits but its loose. 1/2" is a good fit.
The gold one is definitely 13mm.
