*Tiberius coughs quietly* {} Don't try it, (cough cough). There's a LIDL down the road from here, seems funny really, it can be pouring of rain and the entire town deserted but 2 places are always guaranteed to be packed to the brim, McDonalds and LIDL... It's ok but it's more like a prison than a store, 8ft perspex sheeting and a siren that sounds if you try and walk back out of the entrance, like at any point the orcs are gonna run out and grab you >:( And masses of imported goods in foreign languages, nice to know Communism is alive and well in 'new' Britain. Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by Spannerdemon on Oct 24th, 2006, 12:18pm But it's cheap....and people will always shop with the depth of their pockets in mind, which is why our UK firms never get the message! They are invariably just TOO expensive. And let's face it, we all like a bargain! :D The Torquay store is brand new, and as clean as any shop in the UK. No perspex sheeting here! Had a good bargain from LIDL four weeks ago. A set of 100 attachments for my Dremel. In a proper little wooden box, all very tidy, and easy to find which grinding wheel, polisher, bit or cutter you need. Excellent value at £2.99. Bought 2. Have used a couple since then. Top quality. No problems. :D |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by RichardMS on Oct 24th, 2006, 1:20pm Lidl and Aldi are both German, I believe that the owners are brothers, Also all the things they sell are normally very good quality. Bruce as for the perspex and siren then it must be where you live, no problems in all the ones down this way |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by taliban on Oct 24th, 2006, 3:38pm panettone is very moreish italian cake, in a dome shape. the piccy of the trolly jack looks just the same as the halfords ones, but, it didnt say whether it was 1.5, 2.00 or 2.5 tonne. had a discussion some time back on a bike website about lidl/aldi, one of the site members lives in germany and said their stuff is normally good quality, he said the germans dont care about a 'name' of a shop, they're all in lidl in designer suits etc grabbing bargains. i think they buy stuff cheap in bulk, then flog it cheap and once its gone its gone, i dont think they have many permanent 'lines'. how come no one mentioned the 8 cans of export for under a fiver ::) they also have a 8 megapixel digital camera thats also a camcorder, mp3 player, voice recorder. it comes with a base station for charging, rechargeable battery, headphones and carry pouch all cables, cd rom driver for 129 quid. |

They will be short reach ones. Scorp needs a longer bodied trolley to be able to jack both sides of back (I put jack under tow bar or both sides of front up in one lift. The longer bodied one I have used to comfortably lift my Granada, but I notice the Scorps under engine cross member is a little further back - makes it difficult to lift for the first inch due to the limited angle for the handle to move. |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by TiberiuS on Oct 25th, 2006, 6:56pm Good point mate, did actually get a really snazzy marking gauge out of there once, for cutting tiles and the like, being German good quality too ::). Just not sure that a £9.99 trolley jack would really take the weight of a 2000kg car if used regularly, had cheap tools myself in the past and it gets a bit dangerous when DIY grade tools get sold as professional quality, wherever they come from. Even the stores in East London don't have the perspex sheets and alarms, not sure what they think the locals around here are going to get upto :D, surely my area isn't that bad, eh???. Regards, Bruce :) |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by Spannerdemon on Jul 8th, 2007, 2:12pm Don't know if these are in offer in every Lidl, but purely by chance my wife and I picked up a set of 4 (Yes 4) suitcases on Thursday reduced from £39.99 to.........£9.99 ! :D They were flying off the shelves. Looked like Heathrow on a Bank Holiday weekend in the car park, everyone buying them. Fair quality, three with wheels and pulling handles, and a flight bag. Really useful sizes too. All fit inside each other for easy storage. Good old Lidl. Now just need some cheap flights to go with them...... ;D ;D |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by pat on Jul 8th, 2007, 3:04pm [] We use it regularly and most of the stuff is excellent quality. same as everywhere, you get used to what you like and what is not to your personal taste. You sometimes have to search a bit on the tin/packet to find the English translation. The main thing I would urge caution is with cheap wiper blades. We put some on June's Scorp and they were hopeless. In this case you definitely get what you pay for. We have gone back to good quality ones. ALSO, HOW much is a new windscreen if they scratch it??? :'( |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by Big_Green_Tank on Jul 9th, 2007, 1:46pm Pat Wiper blades the Poundland ones are excellent. have used them for about ten years, change them every year and cut up one blade for a rear refill. So it has cost me £3 per year, £30 in ten years for wiper blades now that is economy. Well recomended. Bob |

Title: Re: LiDL worth a look...... Post by Bren on Jul 10th, 2007, 9:33pm I'll pop in to either Lidl or Aldi because where I live the car parks always have space on them and I can park without the usual trolley marks and door edge bangs that can be a "free sample" on Asda, Sainsburys etc. It's also comical to watch people packing the goodies in Sainsburys carrier bags before they leave the shop and carry everything in, no doubt so the neighbours don't know where they shop. |
