Title: Ford Cars I have own
Post by jg on Jul 20th, 2007, 12:00am
OK, I'll start.  Being a Ford apprentice at Hendy - Lennox between 1969 and 1974, my first car was a .....

1. 195x 375 Consul - 1 YHT, wish I'd kept that ???, she through a rod
2. MK3 1964 Zodiac, RUST
3. Mk3  1965 Zodiac, near mint, bought her for £150, sold for £300 - 1972 to 1974
4. MK1 1964 Capri  RUST
5. Mk1a Capri 3ltr GT, I fitted an Oxygen bottle to this one, gave it a bit more go
6. Mk1a face lift Capri 3ltr GXL  Great fun in the wet!
7. 1966 Ford Corsair, with a V6 3 ltr lump and 2000E gearbox
8. Ford Anglia, with a 1600 Xflow lump, twin  45DCOE's

Not in that order by the way.  From 1971 to 1981 with 5 years without a car due to working on a ship, hired a car when I needed to.

Woops.....

9. 1998 Ford Scorpio

That's it, over to you guys.

My list is short enough..

1987 mk3 Granny 2.4i V6
1995 Scorpio 2.0i 16v

The granny was the most fun (big lump up front, no weight at all over the drive wheels, nice V6 wroar when pushing it), while the '95 is definately the most comfy of the two and a lot more balanced in the winter.

I wrote...

"A few other cars that were in my wifes name, so not strictly owned by me...

1978 Mini 1000
1979 & 1981 2.0 Cortina GL saloons
1972 302ci (5.0) Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
1985 3.8 Ford Thunderbird
1996 2.0 GLX Mondeo estate (still owned)"

Notice the Chevy & Thunderbird  ;)

They were my wifes (or my girlfriend at the time).....there ain't many men who would admit that their girlfriend had a bigger car than they did.....but I'll admit it.....

....My bird had a bigger car than I did....ohh the shame ....ha ha.... to be honest, I didn't want to drive that cumbersome Chevy lump that wouldn't stop rocking at the traffic lights & could only achieve 18 seconds (run what you brung) at Santa Pod, but it did sound nice though  8)

So why would a young lass like her want such an awesome car ?.....do Santa Pod regulars remember the 'Guy Bros' ?....Ray & Tony Guy ?

Ray Guy is still racing his Ford Pop as "Shorty's hotrod" & Tony Guy (world modified champ in the mid nineties) has now retired. Even though his Model B is going to be road legal soon & maybe back at Pod raceway  :)

My wife is their little sister....so big cars run in the family  ::)....so she understands my obsession with the MK1 Granny & the Scorp  :)

Getting worried now though...she's expressed an interest in getting another left hand drive gas guzzler to replace the Granny  :o......over my dead body  >:( ..... ;)

P.S...the '85, 3.8 Thunderbird was more unreliable than dodgy toaster, but still sold it for a grand  :)

I did notice ;)

TBH, I'd have the Granny over any of them but some of the old Yank tanks are nice :).

I'm yet to meet a woman with ANY interest in cars, maybe it's better that way. 17mpg out of my V12 wasn't popular but I loved that car, regret every day letting it go (it's been destroyed apparently, doesn't come up on DVLA either, I was gutted). My next is car an R Jag, either XJ or XK but I still have a longing over the old skool XJ :)

Admit I'd love another Scorpio, 2.3 Ultima in State Blue or Ash or similar...wish sometimes that old car was sitting outside so I could take it for a drive at 2am...

Shogun 2.8 diesel

3 of our favourite cars-how can you miss THEM!
Shogun was my last motor!   :P

PS. Range Rover  3.8 Perkins diesel.
Now I'll shut up.
