Title: Re: Steering wheel.... Post by Baz on Nov 8th, 2009, 10:50am Whether it fits or not, there may be insurance implications to fitting a wheel from another car which is not desined to fit.... I would be careful!! |

Title: Re: Steering wheel.... Post by tlundkvi on Nov 8th, 2009, 1:55pm No clue over how the UK laws go. but wouldn't it be necessary that fitting some non-standard gear has proven to be the cause or lead to increased damages for them to not pay damages from the insurance? If you fit modded brakes and you drive off the road and the brakes didn't work etc. Wouldn't it in this case be required you use Ford bolts instead of eg. a generic bolt fitting the spec etc. Of course if it needs to be modded to fit that's of course a different story. |

How do kit cars get on the road then? As long as you user parts that are fit for purpose and you ensure they are installed correctly then you're good to go. In you're example, you don't have to use a Ford bolt BUT you do have to ensure the bolt you use is of an equivalent type to the Ford one you're replacing - I.e. is the Ford bolts is an 8.8 M8 50mm in length then use anyone elses 8.8 M8 50mm long bolt. |

Title: Re: Steering wheel.... Post by gozz on Nov 12th, 2009, 8:13am There's a fair chance that Ford don't make bolts. All their bits are likely to bear the logo but who makes em ? I had a bit of a problem with a 'non genuine' engine oil filter once, then discovered that they were then, all made by Fram, the aftermarket being painted orange, the 'genuine' painted white with Ford EFL 90 marked on them. |
