Title: When is power antenna live?
Post by mattburnett86 on Oct 21st, 2004, 6:35pm
I have a mondeo ST24!!!! Thats probably not a good way to start on a Scorpio forum is it? Anyway, I am planning on fitting an amplifier and subwoofer to the standard ford 7000 headunit and cd changer. I just wanted to know whether the power antenna lead stays live for all of the time that the headunit is switched on, or if it is only live when using the tuner. I obviously want to be able to use the sub when listening to cds, and so if the Power Antenna lead is not live when playing cds, then does anybody have any ideas as to how I can get a 'remote on' wire to my amplifier from the Ford headunit?

hello , you can take a direct live feed to the amp (red cable on the tape input , power wire) , so when you switch the ignition on the amp & tape turn on , i used to have a mondy , with a 800w 4 ch amp and thats the way i connected it for over 2 years without probs ...  ;D

Yes it is live all the time you have the unit switched on so this should be ok for the remote supply to the amp,
If you do as Ash says the amp will be on even without the radio on and you don't want that.

amp will be on when the ignition keys are on ..... if you turn the ignition off , then both the tape & amp will switch off :-X

Yes but why do you need the amp on with the ignition on without the radio on ???, So this is not the correct way to wire an amp is it. If you are going to go to the trouble of getting to the back of your system you might as well wire it up correctly in the first place.  :-X
