Title: Windscreen washers
Post by sardine on May 29th, 2005, 10:51pm
Hi folks - sorry if this is a daft question but my windscren washers have stopped working but wipers and fuse are fine.  I can't find a relay responsible and the fluid is topped right up.  I can't believe both jets have failed simmultaneously so has anyone any ideas??

Thanks, Darren

Evening Darren,

When I had the same problem after running the reservoir down to empty, it turned out to be an airlock. When you press for screenwash can you hear the pump?

Hi Darren
Yeah, what Geoff said.
After that if you can't hear the motor whirring and fuse number 7 is fine then give the connections to the pump a jiggle, and think about replacing it. You should be able to get one dead cheap from a scrapyard! Or FMD. Ha

hi there

another common one is someone using washing up liquid. it forms a gundge at the bottom of the bottle, which ends up blocking the filter. just pull the tube out of the bottle and wash the filter in warm water.

only use screen wash! ;)

many thanks for your replies.

I can't hear the pump so I guess it's that or the wires.  Silly question, but where is it?  - I guess I have to get at it from underneath?

run mine empty once......never again!!! took literally weeks to get it to work (bleed?) again. pump motor would run, but just wouldnt push enough fluid through. dont run it 'dry' for too long as the impeller is plastic, and will melt / jam if it gets too hot! got there eventually by just giving it lots n lots n lots n lots of short bursts until 'normal' service was resumed. i was on the verge of buying a new pump then though!
