Title: Strange Behaviour Post by VladSoare on Jun 5th, 2005, 8:08am Something very strange happend yesterday. I turned on the ignition and waited for a few seconds until most of the lights went off. Everything seemed normal. When I turned the key to the third position to start the engine, I heard a click (like a relay click, coming from the dashboard) and everything died. I mean everything. I had no interior lights, no lights on the dash, no puddle lights, no radio, nothing. Like I had no battery at all. Everything was dead, EXCEPT for one thing. The temperature gauge and the fuel level gauge started to raise slowly, until about the middle of the scale (but the engine was cold and the real fuel level was low, only about 10%, so they both showed higher than normal). Although I had removed the key completely from the ignition barrel, they continued to climb slowly for a few seconds, and then suddenly they died, too. The car behaved like it had no battery at all. I checked the fuses. All of them were OK. I measured the battery. The voltmeter showed 12V. Not 11 point something, but a clean 12. I removed the plus terminal and connected it back. When I opened the door, I noticed the red door light was on, and so were the interior lights, so something had changed. I turned on the ignition. Everything seemed to work fine. Start. The starter turned normally and the engine started immediatelly, like nothing had happened. The starter was turning very fast, like it always does, so the possibility of the battery being discharged can be dismissed. What on Earth happened? :-o Thanks. |
