Title: Dead electric window
Post by ian on Jul 11th, 2005, 8:00pm
When I left work today and opened the electric windows, I heard a loud CLONK to my right, and discovered the driver's window wouldn't close again. The motor whirs when I press the button but does little else. I'm assuming it's a broken linkage somewhere, but when I removed the door card and insulating foam to push the window back up, everything looked fine.

Any ideas where the problem might be?

Maybe a broken armature(shaft, axle) in the motor?
Take off the door panel again, turn on ignition and press the window button and watch what the motor does! If all linkages are intact the motor will whirr but no movement!
         Hope this helps :D
                  If not ask again

I've found the problem now  :) The cog on the motor which moves the window mechanism had split in two and seperated from it's spindle (both of which were a complete git to even see let alone get at, hence why I missed it before) the two halves of the cog are wedged betwen the motor and the door.

Hopefully I can just  buy the cog on it's own, annoyingly the motor's riveted to the door, not screwed so I'd still have to get a garage to fit it for me  >:(

Didn't really feel confident enough to attack my Scorp with a drill. The muppet I bought the motor off had sent me the wrong one anyway, he sent the n/s, I wanted o/s  :(
