I am the happy owner of a 2,9 12V, but I am having some idle problems.

First of all it normally goes 1000 to 1100 revs in idle. Sometimes it goes 1500 and then go down to 500 revs and stalls.

Second my cars has started going a bit rough when driving - the rev counter seem to flicker. It does not go smooth.

What to do before I hand it in, to an authorized ford dealer?

Hello:

I don't remeber if you have a MAF sensor. ??? If you do it looks like it's in it's way out. Disconnect multiplug from MAF, it it improves your car behaviour, you've found the culprit. I have the samr symptoms on my 2.0 16v having damaged my MAF while cleaning. :-[

You do NOT have a MAF to clean . would suggest cleaning the ICV (http://www.auub64.dsl.pipex.com/ICv.jpg) and associated parts. especially inside where the throttle butterlies are just use a good non residue carb cleaner spray and lint free cloth If that does not clear the idle problems then start looking for leaks

Thanks a lot - I will try that.

Today my Scorpio did another sad thing.. When accelerating, the speeder pedal seem to lock - leaving the revs in 3000 rpg. Since I drive automatic, the only thing to do was trying to brake - and then turn off the car.. An unpleasent experience in the middle of traffic..

Anybody knows what to do about this problem?

Well the 12v has a single mechanical linkage to the throttle via a cable from the pedal to the the throttle itself so may be the cable is worn and jamming , that is something which is fairly straight forward.

The only other thing to check is the cable running from the cruise control motor which should be slack.

had you had the cruise control on?

I think the -12v have a mechanical 'idle engine' (help me with the english word)
If this thing isn't the ICV maybe you have the fault there. I had to change it on my old -88 2.9 12v a few years ago after having these problems.

Now I have cleaned the ICV - but still the engine takes too many revs in idle - that is about 1200 revs ( in Drive ) and 2000 revs (in Parking).. Strange..

Maybe I should buy a new ICV - does anybody know how expensive these are? Or maybe the gasket to the ICV is worn out?

When accelerating the car continues to lock. That means when I am driving the car it does not go down in speed when I am taking my foot off the speeder pedal.. not fun at all..

The wire from pedal to engine seem to be allright - Maybe the springs attached to the butterflies could be better.. I don´t know

I had/have the same problem. I cleaned my ICV today because I was stalling. Also, idling revs were constantly going up and down between 700 and 1200. After I cleaned out my ICV, this is what the revs are now:

Park - 1000
Reverse - 500
Neutral - 1000
Drive - 500

I'm not sure if they're supposed to be that way, but when I'm in reverse or drive, I feel as if the car is going to stall on me.

I think buying a new one would make me feel better about the car. Anyone know how expensive they are? ScorpioInDK and I would like to know. Thanks

I went to my scrapyard and bought 3 for almost nothing and tried them. 2 of the 3 worked perfekt. This is the swedish way to repair the car... :)
