Title: battery/memory clearence Post by bazza1962 on Sep 28th, 2005, 9:05pm I wanted to clear my Climate memory,I feel it is not resetting properly.I have disconnected battery several times for varying lengths of time, fron 1hr to lately 12 hours.I am surprised that all functions except radio have keep their settings.Am i doing something wong?.I am only disconnecting +ve. Title: Re: battery/memory clearence Post by ADroste on Sep 28th, 2005, 9:41pm Barry, not 100% sure, but very very likely seat position and climate control settings etc. are not stored in a (volatile) RAM but in an EEPROM. As this abbreviation says, the memory can only be erased electrically. That means certain bit patterns sometimes combined with enhanced voltage levels have to be applied to certain pins of the memory circuit to achieve a clearance of the device. This is done normally by the microcontroller, in which often the EEPROM is located in. So, I fear that you have no chance to clear the memory. Armin P.S.: When approximately in 1994 the radio models have been designed, technology for EEPROM cells was not so thoroughly investigated as today. Manufacturers guaranteed not more than 10000 write and erase cycles at commercial temperature range and much less for industrial temperature range. Another limitation was the minimum write cycle time, which was 50msec and more. Together with verification algorithms the programming time was not very user friendly. So it was risky, to use EEPROM memory for radio station storage. Some designers did. Others tend to keep the proven RAM technology, which had the disadvantage of data loss at voltage cut off. (If not an extra button cell buffer barttery was used.) |

Title: Re: battery/memory clearence Post by Danny_R on Sep 29th, 2005, 2:15pm Barry, When you say it is not resetting properly, I assume you have done the Climate Control Reset as detailed here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm At least this is the only way I know how to do it. Kind Regards Danny_R |

Title: Re: battery/memory clearence Post by David_South_West on Sep 30th, 2005, 3:19pm what problems are you experiencing with the climate control? An auto electrician recomended to me a quick way to reset computers is to disconnect the negative leads from the battery and short out to the positive terminal.thought that sounded odd but he says this discharges the capacitors quickly rather than letting them drain slowly.i don't know if this will reset climate control. Is it showing any fault codes? David |
