Thanks in advance, sure some bright spark out there can help |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by Wafoo on Oct 15th, 2005, 9:58pm nah,it's definately engine oil, seems to be coming from the right hand side as you look at the engine from the front, but without whipping all the air cleaner stuff out and associated gubbins, can't be sure |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by Neil W on Oct 16th, 2005, 5:05pm How much oil are you using? Have you looked at the rocker covers? Mine leaked from the gaskets and eventually ran all over the engine and dripped on to the undertray. However, the oil loss was insignificant, like half litre every 10k miles, so for a long time I did nothing about it. Eventually replaced the rocker cover gaskets. Now I have a small leak from the timing chain case, but that, too, can wait a while. Try cleaning the engine, as far as you can get at it from both above and below, with an old paint brush soaked in paraffin and wiped off with a rag. This will help to source the leak more accurately because the forward motion of the car can blow the oil everywhere and fool you as to exactly where the leak is from. Cheers, Neil W. ;D |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by Wafoo on Oct 16th, 2005, 7:01pm Cheers Neil, just haven't had a spare miniute to look properly at the moment which is half the problem, will take the covers off and do the paraffin thing in the week. Like I said there's no noticeable leak, doesn't drip on the drive and in 5000 miles but in about 1/2 litre |

Title: Re: Oil leak Post by Neil W on Oct 17th, 2005, 10:48am Aha; taking the rocker covers off is not an easy job on the Cosworth because you have to remove the inlet manifolds etc., and will need to buy the relevant gasket set (for the covers, spark plug "holes" and inlet manifolds) if you take off the rocker covers. However, just cleaning up whatever you can get at will help greatly towards finding the source of the oil leak. Cheers, Neil W. |
