Title: Windscreen removal Post by Highlander on Dec 7th, 2005, 3:38pm I'm currently breaking a Scorpio with a heated windscreen in perfect working order. Is it possible/feasible to remove it and keep it as a spare? |

Title: Re: Windscreen removal Post by Snoopy on Dec 7th, 2005, 3:49pm IT is but it s NOT an easy job to remove with out breaking it.. You need a very flexible thin blade to cut through the sealant bead.... and then it can be removed and cleaned up , but as IMHO the trouble and strife it would cause is not worth the cost of a new one on your insurance..... MOST insurance companies replace windscreens withour loss of NCB and a nominla payment... My current one is £40. |

Title: Re: Windscreen removal Post by Simmo on Dec 7th, 2005, 4:32pm I watched this being done recently on a Mondeo at the 'scrappy'. The chap had a special tool, similar to that which is used in hospitals to remove casts.Works on a high speed vibration principle thus generating heat. Even with that it wasn't easy. Where the tool wouldn't reach he and his mate had a braided brass wire with a handle at each end and with one inside the car and one outside they 'sawed' it back and forth gradually moving around the screen. I agree with Snoopy(Of course!) certainly NOT easy. You also need to avoid the electrical connections. |

Title: Re: Windscreen removal Post by craig on Dec 7th, 2005, 5:43pm i had a faulty one replaced only last week, and that broke whilst being taken out (they did have the decency to tell me,and hoover MOST of the glass up),and yes the guys said it wasn't easy without breaking them, only guessing here but the risk is probably not worth what you would get for flogging it..... :-/ |

Title: Re: Windscreen removal Post by hepburn on Dec 7th, 2005, 11:58pm I'd have a go at removing it purely for the experience... If you get it right you have something to sell, get it wrong and what have you lost except some time? |

Title: Re: Windscreen removal Post by Snoopy on Dec 8th, 2005, 8:18am Make sure you wear proper safety goggles , because if it does crack very small shards of glass can be projected in all directions. |
