Title: select Reverse,,,, then...bang! Post by leftofcentre on Jan 2nd, 2006, 7:49pm Hope this is not the beginning of the end :'( :'( :'( :'( was reversing out the garage this morning, selected R in usual way, car "creaped" back in the usual way until half way out the garage where she seemed to roll to a halt. So put more pressure on gas, revs increased, slight pause, then BANG, gearbox thumped and she launched backwards giving me whiplash! Oil level is ok but still to get round to changing the brown (although it does have a red hue :P) oil + filter. Once out the garage drove fine all the way to Fort William and back (150miles +) along probably the windiest road in the world. (A82) |

Title: Re: select Reverse,,,, then...bang! Post by nuttyscorp on Jan 2nd, 2006, 9:39pm recommend oil and filter asap, doesnt cure everything, but helps most probs, ive changed my oil and filter, similar probs to you, and its still there, but not so harsh, ive learned to live with it over the last four years, so it shouldl last a while yet, as it is but then, i do have another gearbox in anticipation..... if i remember right, an obd2 scan will say something like "reverse solenoid pressure low/fail" Russ |

Title: Re: select Reverse,,,, then...bang! Post by nuttyscorp on Jan 2nd, 2006, 10:42pm funny you say that, as my original scan was done by a "snap on obd" and it showed:- P1701 Reverse Engagement Error. now then, at the last but one kent meet, i still had the same problem, eric_r done a full obd2 scan, and it had a clean bill of health, someone else done one too (simmo i think), same conclusion. now, by no means am i knocking an obd2 scan, but my scorp is from a fleet of ex taxis, from where i worked, they had a fleet of 35, changed twice yearly, so i guess in the four years, we went through 200+ scorps (2.0 + 2.3) ive asked the mechanics questions many times, and they tell me "every scorpio is different, ie different one off probs" unfortunatly our workshop took the easy option of renewing gearboxes. is it possible that a "snap on" obd scan can find faults that the trusty obd2 scan cant?, from my own personal experience...it seems so? :-Xshouldn't of said that, im gonna get it in the neck now! :-X Russ |

Title: Re: select Reverse,,,, then...bang! Post by Simmo on Jan 3rd, 2006, 7:10am Russ, I think it was Pegasus who may have done the scan, didn't you drive it round the car park?. It wasn't me for sure as my computer skills are best described as 'limited'!!.. |

Title: Re: select Reverse,,,, then...bang! Post by Snoopy on Jan 3rd, 2006, 7:21am Does sound rather ominous I am afraid. I think you would find something broken in there if you were to strip it down. Had a similar problem once on a Mk 3 similar circumstances. Ended up having a replacement box , fortunately for me it was a work car so no cost to me ;D. Bangs from the gear box are NOT good sounds IMHO |
