Title: instruments Post by trogg on Feb 25th, 2006, 7:32pm hi/ i have been having some problems with my instruments on my 2 ltr 16v scorpio. ocassionally the instruments die then after a short while they return to normal readings. on other occasions the instruments die but when they return they spin all the way round before returning to normal. but if they die and i tap the top of the dashboard normal function resumes. i am thinkng dodgy conection. but would appreciate some input. trogg |

Title: Re: instruments Post by nuttyscorp on Feb 25th, 2006, 8:28pm spinning dials is a sign of a faulty battery, however, if they return to normal when you tap the dash, then, yes, probably a bad connection. Russ |

Title: Re: instruments Post by cossie_al on Feb 26th, 2006, 10:45pm Hi Trogg, I noticed my instruments going off it as soon as i turned on the ignition and after probably two seconds they carmed down this happened for a couple of days then the car would not start. As russ says a new battery solved it. Have you tried not tapping the dash or does this happen many times after the car has started ie when your driving along? Cheers, Al |

Title: Re: instruments Post by freeflyer on Feb 27th, 2006, 6:51pm Same thing happens on mine when I'm driving. Symptoms start with the speedometer wobbling and then going to zero. After a while it "resets" itself. Sometimes the speedometer doesn't even move when I drive off. I'm guessing a bad connection in the back. |

Title: Re: instruments Post by matlockcopy on Apr 1st, 2006, 4:38pm Car would not start this morning (drained by the alarm? - it is used once a week) the speedometer and tacho both flicked back and forward with the speedometer now stuck at 6 o'clock. the tacho works fine but the speedometer just occasionally flicks an inch or so backwards then goes back to 6 o'clock. Are the points being raised about the battery (which was replaced a year ago) relevant or is it in fact the alternator. The charging up of the battery seems ok and the dealer tested the battery with one of those clever little devices about 6 weeks ago. Any help would be much appreciated - there are just too many speed cameras for comfort. |
