Title: speed sensitive steering Post by iceman on Mar 11th, 2006, 7:44pm My '97 ultima just failed the MOT due to the steering rack leaking when on full r/h lock. I picked up a new 1 from CAF for £136 (Ford £550) but when I came to fit it some blighter had swopped the one in the box and they didn't have another only the speed sensitive type, so I've fitted it and it seems slightly stiffer than the original but o'k. Anyone know what parts I woud need to rig this rack up to the electrics and make it work? |

Title: Re: speed sensitive steering Post by iceman on Mar 12th, 2006, 12:17pm Thanks for your reply, I wonder if there's a lead with a plug on it somewhere that just needs connecting, because as the previous guy stated it can only require a power connection when the car is in gear 1 or reverse I would think, it cant be that complicated. I might put power to and see just what happens, if need be run it through a normal switch, but I do like thing done proper |

Title: Re: speed sensitive steering Post by howiedintheplace on Mar 13th, 2006, 9:26am Yes normally the ECU controls it but I reckon you won't have the wiring on your car so a simple fix would be a on/off switch suppling current. Just remember to switch it off @ high speeds as the steering will be very lite. |

Title: Re: speed sensitive steering Post by iceman on Mar 13th, 2006, 1:36pm I've to go to the breakers to get a suitable plug & lead cos I'm interested to know how light it can be. Do you think the electrics pulls it into another gear. it must be really if you think about it. or the only other thing is that its got some sort of brake around it that releases when you give it power. I wonder if I can get a wiring diagram to find out where to connect it Is it standard fitting on the cossie? |
