Title: 24V brake band bolt torque setting
Post by david_molloy on Mar 12th, 2006, 4:35pm
Hello All.
Does anyone know torgue figure for brake band bolt - initial setting prior to backing off 2-2+1/2 turns & locking up @ 54N/m.
Ford gives torque for lock nuts but not brake band - I assume that the "special " tool - 17-029 is just a preset torque tool.
If anyone has the "special" tool I would be willing to hire it.
I posted on list also - David supplied Granada figures - which I may try if cannot obtain Scorpio ones.
Thanks
david

Hi David ...maybe not the greatest advice but I would forget special tools .. undo the locknut .. screw in until contact is made with the band casing < you will feel it > ..and then back off one or two eigths of a turn ..hth ... STN

Hello STN
Don't underestimate your advice - I assume that it was successful for you previously.
It kind of confirms what I had assumed regarding brake bands.
David off mailing list gave me torque setting for Granada 13N/m.
This is quite low and I assume just to seat & nip up  band so that when backed off band is loose & not braking at all.
So nicely ties in with your method which will have very low initial torque & less backing off
Assume thats why Ford say 2 & 2+1/2 turns out then lock.
Thanks
david
