Cleaned out the AC drain pipes over the weekend. However, if I don't use the defrost setting on the climate control, the windows steam up, in particular the side and rear.

Problem is with the defrost setting the AC is on which results in higher fuel consumption.

Does anyone else experience similar or maybe its the way I brethe. Cleaning out the AC drain pipes has made no difference.

Are you getting fresh air from outside, there is a small vaccum motor activated by the recirculation switch. Maybe there is something stuck and all the air gets recirculated, that will explain the steamy windows.

This cylinder is the vaccum motor

by pressing air recirculaton it should move a connecting rod. Also for fresh air to enter in the car the fan should be on or set to auto and (ac-off).

are the carpets wet? maybe you have a water leak somewhere? water coming into the car will cause your windows to steam up, but the ac would clear it?

Yes I know the problem of steamy windows only to well.
Have you checked your heater matrix?
Do you have the musty curry smell?
The matrix tend to leak slowly at first and it may well be slightly damp at the bottom of the matrix. Remove duct work in the footwells and check..
This leak does not get better. Its best to replace the matrix before it starts leaking big time and dumps all the coolant in the footwell.
Then you will have a problem trying to get the antifreeze out of the carpets etc..

I take the site's advice and let the CC computer decide whether the AC should be on or off and beggar the extra fuel consumption , which is kinda negligible anyway :o

At 28 mpg and 91p a litre, you don't buy a Scorp for ( as Gordon Brown, he say ) prudent and efficient fuel consumption :-/

Had the same problem. Turned out to be leaking matrix. It seemed too big a job to tackle in bad weather so decided to bypass it and hope weather would get warmer. This was easier than I thought it would be but job must be done sometime.

Went out this morning and the windows did not steam up. I had the setting on the footwell position and vaired the temperature between 21-25. So perhaps this could mean that the problem is with the vacuum motor rather than heater matrix? Whats everyone reckon?

still no sign of misting now? checked the carpets, they are also dry. Maybe it was just moisture that had seeped in somehow?
