Title: Locking Wheel Nuts.
Post by Vince on Apr 15th, 2006, 2:11pm
Sorry to be a pain but the Scorpio is new to me and there are a few things I will need to ask.

The car has 12 spoke soft effect alloy wheels and the wheelnut cover is secured using 5 hex bolts, and one locking nut for which I do not have the key.

Where would I obtain a key (eg is it a standard Ford dealer item?), or will I have to drill the locking nut off and replace it? Any idea of the cost of either option?

TIA

The Locking nut is the only one you need to undo and they are a standard Ford Item.

It uses a three pronged type key and I am sure that some one on here will have one from a scrap car

I think you will find it is a standard item and I don't think drilling is necessary. I believe the 'nuts' are in fact blanks.  Someone who has this type will be along to confirm I'm sure. Don't be afraid to ask. Thats what the site is for and most of us learn something new each day!!.

Many thanks Simmo, already I have had a pm from someone who may have  a spare wheel  key.....the Scorpio- which I only collected today- is my first and so there is a lot to learn.

This isn't made any easier by the fact that the owner's manual isn't present, although I have read the one on the site. I have been looking out for an owner's handbook on eBay and will get one soon.

Incidentally, I looked at about 8 Scorpios before buying this one, and not one of them had the battery cover present, including this one. Why do mechanics not re-fit them when they take them off?? >:( >:( >:(

Anyway, thanks for the help so far and I'm sureI'll be asking lots more.

hi there

some cars (mine) also have a locking nut on the the actual wheel. i've been told that this nut has a different code for each car (1 of a 1000 or so).
