Title: I give up!
Post by km449 on Aug 15th, 2006, 9:43pm
Had 2 weeks of a perfectly working remote (after another weeks absence, with cleaning and new batteries) and suddenly it goes awol again.

And yes I've already previously done all the mods suggested on here (more than once!)

Love the car but this is driving me mad enough to concede defeat. Looked at an explorer today - first thing I asked was whether the rcl worked! I can cope with the explorers 17mpg as long as I can get into the xxxxxxxxxxxx thing (sorry!)

Are you saying that you left the car for a week & the remote did not work when you came back! if so thats right, you need to unlock with key first.... or is there more to it?

Remember the ZX81?...... ::)
I think the Scorpio remote has the same circuit board }{ }{

I'm saying that the fob didnt work for a week, gave it some tlc, and for two weeks it worked perfectly, until it suddenly stopped working for no obvious reason - again!

The good old zx81 eh, brings back memories of loading games by cassette and then it overheating and crashing at last minute! Nowhere near as good as the Amega 32 or the Commodore 64!!!!:-)

Aren't we forgeting that the scorpio shuts down the remote system in 120 hours... meaning 5 days....

I appreciate that.

When I say it didnt work for a week I mean that I had a week of having to unlock the car with the key as the remote suddenly stopped working.

After some tlc I got it working again only for it to pack up suddenly again after 2 weeks - so back to unlocking with key.

Whats also annoying is that you have to unlock the car via the door before you unlock the tailgate - otherwise the alarm goes off. Really convenient with a fistful of bags - not!

My alarm doesn't go off when i open the boot with the key, regardles if the car is locked with the remote or with the key....

I can relate to your woes, I have the same problems. Both me and the missus have scorps and it is hit and miss wether the remote will work or not. Could be fine for days, then suddenly won't work, but then a couple of hours later it could be working again. Sometimes you can unlock the car with the remote but go to lock it when you get to work and it won't. It really is driving us both mad.

I have remebered another scorpio remote -related thing it uses a degenerative code...meaning if it's used or accidently pressed more than 10 times (without effect from the care....  ie out of the range)...it's code will change and "un-tune" with the car....

The alarm goes off on mine too!  :-/

I've managed to get a replacement remote sorted out now though, so hopefully it'll be on it's way on Monday and I won't have this hassle anymore ...fingers crossed

Alarm problem is down to bad contacts in the doors/boot/bonnet lock, nothing to do with the remote ;)

Had the same thing happen on the Mondeo a while back and that doesn't even have remote locking. Give all the lock mechs a good spray of WD40 or switch cleaner and work 'em a few times, may solve the problem.

Cover the pads on the backs of the button membrane with aluminium foil or conductive paint, the conductive coating wears off the pads, the same reason why the buttons you use most on the telly remote stop working...

another tip if your stuck with dodgy remote pad- got me out of trouble many times until i got a new remote is to wipe off any residue and use a pencil - graphite is conductive  and a short pencil can be concealed in a bag or wallet, a good coating with graphite will need topping up roughly two-weekly but can be life saving

Had a Commodore 64 back in the day, great bit of kit but so many problems with it, most of the games ended up faulty through the tape getting corrupted, a couple of the games never even worked new. Phoned the company at the time but I think they were inundated with problems, never ever got an answer. Ripped it to bits (as I did most things) when it broke and used some of the motors etc on other stuff, rue the day I did that though.

Mate of mine got a brand new Amiga shortly after, endless problems with that too, shame because when it worked it was great. Other niggles with the 64 too but the game loading one was the biggest. Also you used to get a buzz if you touched the metal braid thinggy which used to hang out of the tape deck connector, nobody ever managed to work out where it was meant to go.

You can get a free Commodore emulator program now to work on the PC and most of the games if you want to travel back in time, nice stuff but they don't have the same magic anymore, I like my modern Unreal Tournament and Raven Shield, far more immersive...

Ahhh, happy days of yoof playing Snare and Confusion, then load the next section on the tape and AAAHHHH!!! IT'S CRASHED!!!

Regards, Bruce.
