Title: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by Andy on Aug 24th, 2006, 8:16pm My '96 2.3 ultima estate has the noisiest rear seat i have ever heard. it squeaks like a good un all the time, but is more noticeable at lower speeds around town. It has doen it ever since i owned the car this year. i thought that i could live with it, but it's really beginning to annoy. At first i thought it might be the roller blind/load area cover, so i removed it and did another test drive, but the squeak was the same. I think it is the seat back itself, but have no idea what to do about it. has anyone elese here experienced the same with their estates, and if so have they come up with a cure? Any help would be much appreciated. |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by Kjetil S on Aug 24th, 2006, 8:18pm Hmm, you could perhaps place someone back there to try and find where it's coming from? |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by Andy on Aug 24th, 2006, 8:40pm ;D Pretty sure its not the tailgate, and the mother in law always travels on the roof }{ I'll test it again tomorrow with my missus in the back seat, see if she can hear exactly where it comes from. the noise is similar to vinyl rubbing against something, but the seats are cloth so i can't figure that one out! |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by cossieguy on Aug 24th, 2006, 8:58pm Not exactly the same but my 2 front seats make all sorts of noises, how do you tighten them down onto electric motor cradle thingy? Both have quite a bit of play sideways and back and forth. |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate...TRY THIS Post by km449 on Aug 25th, 2006, 11:23am I had this and found it to be the top of the seat rubbing on the pin it locks into. Put some insulating tape around the pin, locked the seat back in and heh presto - no squeak hth Keith |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by Mikesmount on Aug 25th, 2006, 3:55pm Mine is also very noisy. It has leather, and I assumed the leather was rubbing somewhere. It happens mostly at low speed on poor surfaces, so I will try Keith's remedy. |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by km449 on Aug 25th, 2006, 6:06pm Yes mine was leather. Spent months searching for the squeak - checked the tailgate, the multi changer, the boot cover, and even had it into the exhaust place to see if it was that. The locking pin for the seat is identical to that for the tailgate - don't ask me when and how I had a moment of inspiration - but suddenly it all seemed so obvious. A few loops of tape and bob's your uncle (mine's called Steve but you know what I mean!) Just waiting for paperwork from DVLA to change the scorps personal plate back to it's original and then it goes up for sale, having now bought Dora the Explorer (what a car!) Wondering if I should be wicked and take the tape off the pin before I sell it ::) Keith |

Title: Re: noisy rear seat in ultima estate... Post by Andy on Sep 16th, 2006, 9:09pm Hi, sorry for being a bit late following this up. I've tried several ideas so far, including all but the tape around the seat pins, which is next on my list. I looked closely at the tailgate, and there are four rubber stops fitted, which act as buffers or little bumpers for when the tailgate is closed. I found that they mad a squeaking noise so i smeared a little greaase around each one and that removed that squeak, but not the one that still persists. Having searched extensively for the cause, I found that the black plastic trim that runs from the rear seats along the bottom of the rear side windows to the tailgate area also make a squeaking noise - very much like what i have been hearing all along. i now think that this may be the cause as it happens mostly at lower speeds on uneven surfaces and if there is anyflex of any kind in the framework of the rear of the car then this would explain it. Will try tape on the seat lock pins this weekend but suspect it will not cure it. guess i'l just have to live with yet another quirk of my scorpio estate. ??? |
