Could be that a contact is stuck or there is a short. Pop the thing open and give it a good clean (contacts, chip board, switches etc) out with a cotton bud and spirits. Look for any obvious signs of dry contacts/damage and the like.

Also be wary of cheap Batteries, the wife bought a pack of 5 remote batteries off ebay for £2 and they died within a couple of weeks of use.
I was having alot of trouble with my remote during the hot spell, would work in the morning but not in the afternoon, I think it was down to the heat as the remote works perfectly again now the hot weather has gone.
They certainly do seem to be a law unto themselves, our remotes.

Indeed, very temperamental,   somedays  I have to be within 3 feet  of the boot  before it pops up, other times  it works from  20 yards away :-/

Try  the  school  rubber  trick,   take it apart,  and  rub   the  gold  surfaces  with the  rubber  ( NOT  an  ink  rubber  )  then   the  conductive  contact  pads .

Mine's been trouble free for a year or so since.

Agreed with the temperature problem. Mine would pop the boot up without pressing any buttons and set the alarm off a couple of times. But in the cooler weather its fine. THey certainly need a good clean and you can even use nail polish remover on the contacts.

Remember not to toutch the button cell with your fingers..

This leaves oily mineral deposits, they can cause HIGH resistance in the supply circuit or short the cell out.

If you have toutched it, wipe with a dry clean tissue.

The remote was always an enigma to me and it drove me so mad I swapped the much loved scorp for an explorer. Both remotes work all the time every time!!!

Ever wondered why some of the buttons on old remotes for TVs and the like need to be pressed HARD to get the message?

Now you know ;)

You could always get some miniature tact switches from Maplin and solder them onto the contacts or just put some tin foil or conductive paint over, I think the transmitting range is turned down though to comply with the bonkers EU regs...
