Has happened twice in two weeks now, when reversing and turning left the car stalls and wont restart, wont turn over its almost as if immobiliser has kicked in .Take key out of ignition and wait 30 secs or so and it starts fine.Really annoying, is this steering related or maybe something else?
24v ultima saloon 1996.
Forgot to mention both times the car had been driven up to temp then parked, and it stalled after coming back to drive it after 30 mins or so. Never done it when cold.

Right getting more frequent now, did it again today seems to be when car has had a bit of a drive then parked up for a while. Very embarrasing >:( Does this tie in with the fact that sometimes i start the car and it just stalls, starts fine again. Have cleaned MAF
bit wary of doing iacv as i haven't done it before! But how can the iacv cause the car to stall when in gear and reversing?

Have you disconnected the battery to see if it makes a difference?

Have just done it will let you know if fault still appears.

Sticking aircon compressor can stall the engine, try running with the aircon off

Had a similar problem to this years ago. Nearly drove me mad trying to find it, and it turned out to be some wiring down by the gearbox which had corroded, and the slightest movement of the gearbox when reversing was enough to cause a short and stall the car. Might be worth a wee look. ;)

Cheers for ideas, will wait to see if it happens again then check the wiring etc.

Hi Guy,
does it only happen in reverse?
does it only happen with full steering lock?
does it only happen when moving off in idle with a hot engine?

I had similar problem, my answers to above were no, no, yes.

Can you get a scan? It might help pinpoint it.

No
Yes(Reverse only)

Will try and get a scan done, since fitting my reverse sensors though i tend to park backwards! So fault doesn't get a chance to appear.
