Title: Judder
Post by Daven on Sep 19th, 2006, 7:27am
Occasionally as I pull away the car judders as if I am pulling away in 3rd gear - I imagine it is like the cattle grid problem with the auto's but this is manual.

It mainly does it when the car is hot but can do it from cold in the mornings (or I compensate without knowing!). This has been happening over the last couple of years (car now has done 74k).

I always thought the clutch was at fault, but someone has recently said it could be the engine or/and the gearbox mounts - any thoughts?

Dave

Sounds  like   clutch plate   trouble.

Almost every manual I've ever owned  suffered from this malady at one time or the other  ( the main reason  I'm  sticking   to  Auto's  from  now on  :-*).

Open the bonnet and check  the  engine  stability  when  idling,  does  it  move about excessively  on  its  mountings even when  the  throttle  is   gunned ?

Engine appears stable, so would go along with the clutch plate theory - anyone know a good place in SE London or Kent that I can use (NOT Mr Clutch ;) )

Thanks

Dave
