Title: Clunking sound
Post by richa on Oct 11th, 2006, 4:41pm
I have a clunking sound around the nearide front. At first I thought it was the exhaust as its the original and on its last legs. However getting under the car and shaking the exhaust does nothing. Its not the ball joint so I am a bit lost. Maybe its one of the suspension or tie rod bushes.Any ideas please.Cheers Richa

Check out the anti rollbar links and also the rollbar bushes.  I did them on mine and it cured all suspension noises.  Regards Dave

had a clunk from the front left, turned out to be worn o/s balljoint which seems to cause the n/s droplink to wear? replaced both and clunk gone....

darn thing still pulls to the left, though  ;D

Have you checked the wishbone bushes? :)

Thanks for the replies, its had replacement ball joint  two years ago and hence it came with wishbone bushes too and I remember I replaced the large round rubber bush too. Did the job with the car on the ground as it should be. Its just had a MOT and on the advise was worn anti roll bar bushes so I will go with that one and try to change them hopefully its not too difficult. I thought it was the exhaust. Best wishes. Richa

Anti roll bar is the easiest of all and the bushes are cheap. If they are worn it will certainly give you the 'clunking' sound you mention. The details are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/suspension/FSuspStabiliser.pdf)
